Why this series?
AI now arrives at almost every growth meeting as a single sentence: faster experiments, more personal messages, smaller teams. Some of those sentences are true; some only feel true.
This series takes the question this site has asked from the start and applies it to AI: the gap between apparent growth and real growth. Just as you can't read growth in an inflationary economy without taking the price effect out of the nominal number, you can't read the speed and growth that come with AI without taking out the expectation, the choice of task and the rework that shows up later.
The series opens with one question: does "AI made us X percent faster" describe real speed, or only the speed people feel? Not ready answers, but the questions to ask the next time you hear that sentence.
